Microsoft Dynamics GP: French, Dutch & German Versions – Overview

Writen by Andrew Karasev

Microsoft is on the way of Project Green realization. Former Microsoft Great Plains, now Microsoft Dynamics GP version 9.0 is marching across the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Historically, however there is the whole cluster of former Great Plains Software customers in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and Poland. With the acquisition of Navision Software, Denmark based software development company, Microsoft seems to be more active in promoting Navision in its traditional markets, such as Europe with its complex taxing system, payroll diversification and languages. Great Plains Dexterity (the engine of Microsoft Dynamics GP) is not that flexible in multi-language support, plus being designed as database and computer graphical platform transferable – Dexterity foundation in our opinion doesn’t provide international environment flexibility, this is probably why Microsoft emphasizes Navision on emerging markets: Russia, Brazil, Eastern Europe, etc. It seems that Microsoft will have German, French (mainland France, Quebec will have Canadian French version supported) and Dutch Great Plains version translated later in 2006 and version 9.0 has all the chances to be the final version of Great Plains – Microsoft Dynamics GP for these countries. We specialize in Great Plains remote support Worldwide with substantial cost optimization and we do serve European clientele with traditional experience in Great Plains, now supporting Navision and Axapta technically challenging projects. In this small article we will talk about the possibilities.

Concerns. Well – if you have GP as your corporate accounting system with substantial amount of customization and reporting, tuned for French legislation – your concern has all the rights for existence. It is typical situation when Navision partner has very limited knowledge in Great Plains and GP->NAV conversion might be a nightmare. Project Green should deemphasize application specifics and make all the application databases: GP, NAV, AX, SL, CRM be accessible through similar interface.

Dexterity Customizations. In our opinion, if you are in Europe – you should analyze and rethink your customization strategy. You should probably move away from Dexterity toward web interfaces and even integrate your custom forms into MS Outlook (similar to Microsoft CRM and Microsoft Small Business Accounting)

Migration. At this point this is now decided yet. Let’s wait and see where we will have to go. Hopefully Project Green will stick to its schedule.

Computer Reseller Business: The Components of Online Pricing

Writen by Joshua Feinberg

Many professionals today are enlisting the support of those in the computer reseller business, and the Internet has become an excellent tool for any computer reseller business looking to market products and services. Websites and online auctions help make products visible to people outside the computer reseller business’ immediate community.

Components of Internet Pricing

Internet pricing involves several different factors: price; packaging; and delivery. A computer reseller business should take all these components into account when setting up an online auction or using a website. Reviewing other websites that are taking part in the same processes will help gauge the market.

Price

Those involved in the computer reseller business need to know the factors of their price. Items like shipping are typically treated as added costs, and most customers will gladly pay it. The biggest factor in price is collecting payments, and every computer reseller business should be capable of accepting credit card purchases. PayPal is another viable option that allows users to have an account connected to an online bank. Regardless of the method of payment, prices should be competitive, but can include extras that can justify charging more.

The Package

Packaging is not just the process of boxing the product. A computer reseller business needs to provide Internet packages that appeal to all customers. A responsible business will offer a variety of buying options, including single items and components for those that don’t need an entire computer.

Delivery

Delivery has to be a part of online purchases. You can deliver to local customers personally to cut costs and help establish a good rapport with customers. For those farther away, you can determine shipping costs by figuring out the urgency of need for the product.

A computer reseller business can experience growth by using website and online auctions and considering the factors of pricing, packages and delivery.

A Quick Guide to High Definition Plasma Televisions

Writen by Chris Robertson

Televisions come in two digital formats – High Definition television and Standard Definition television. More and more people today are realizing the amazing benefits of a “higher standard” when it comes to television. As a result, High Definition plasma televisions are becoming one of the new trends of home entertainment.

What does High Definition Mean in the Entertainment World?

High Definition simply means a new, higher standard than before. Television screens project images in tiny pixels using various types of resolutions that determine the end quality of the picture (or what we actually see on the screen). Resolution is how many lines are available horizontally and vertically to display the pixels. A High Definition television screen could have more or less resolution than the average computer monitor. As you can see, the high definition television will often provide a clearer, more realistic image than even the average computer monitor.

High Definition Plasma Television Goes Further

A High Definition plasma television goes even further and provides a larger, wider screen that can create images using a layer of trapped gas between two glass screens. The image quality is of the best detail when compared to other non-CRT technologies, however, plasma TVs are known for lacking brightness.

When entertaining at home, consumers are able to enjoy almost theater-quality imagery with the High Definition plasma television. They can watch their favorite TV programs or movies while enjoying maximum quality pictures.

LCD Panel Monitor Comparison

The High Definition plasma flat panel can be compared with the LCD panel monitor, which is a large, flat TV screen that’s also known for its excellent picture quality. The High Definition plasma flat panel is very similar to the LCD panel monitor in shape and size, but with plasma technology.

Other Technologies

Other products that are leading the way in technology side-by-side with High Definition plasma televisions include the LCD projector, which can work with an LCD panel monitor, the advanced notebook computer, the handheld digital camera, and the amazing digital camcorder. Each of these is taking the electronics market by storm.

Consumers who choose to buy any of these products find them to be fun as well as practical. For example, those who buy notebook computers are able to carry them anywhere they go. They can work from the office, from home or abroad. They can store files and pull them up from anywhere on the planet! Those who buy digital camcorders are able to film home videos from anywhere – without a complicated setup. Products such as handheld digital cameras and LCD projectors make presentations so much easier for those with a tight schedule.

High Definition plasma televisions are priced anywhere from $1,600 to more than $10,000. Pricing depends on the features, brand name, size and capabilities. Those who buy a High Definition plasma television can amaze their friends with this unique technology.

what to look for in a computer hard drive

What To Look For In A Computer Hard Drive

Writen by Cedric H. Dirose

There is no doubt that the computer hard drive is the lifeblood of any computer, from the tiniest laptop to the largest computer server. Without a hard drive on which to store data, even the most technologically advanced computer is worthless, so it is important to choose that drive carefully.

These days, of course, there are computer hard drives in far more than computers. In fact, those hot new iPods actually sport hard drives with a higher storage capacity than all but the most powerful computers on the market a mere decade ago. It is hard to believe that the technology behind computer storage has come so far so fast, but in fact prices have dropped nearly as fast as storage capacities have increased.

This is of course good news for the computer shopper, and this means that shoppers are able to get much more bang for their buck than would have been possible only a few years ago. These days the storage capacity of a computer hard drive is likely lo be measured in hundreds of gigabytes, providing plenty of storage for music, movies, photographs and other valuable documents.

The type of hard drive you need will of course depend on the type of computer equipment you are shopping for. If you need hard drives for a computer server, you will likely be looking for a hot swappable SCSI (small computer serial interface) hard drive with a fast seek time and a high degree of reliability. The beauty of these drives is that they can be replaced even while the server is running, and in most cases the end users will never know that anything has happened. This makes it easy to quickly replace and rebuild a failed drive, and SCSI drives are the industry standard for web servers and other high value servers.

Of course most of us will not be shopping for these more expensive server hard drives. In most cases, home users will be purchasing internal hard drives which use a simple IDE interface and are quite easy to install. The storage capacities of these internal hard drives varies quite widely, from a low of about 60 or 80 gigabytes to hard drives capable of holding 200, 300, 400 or even 500 gigabytes or more.

If you can afford a higher capacity hard drive it is best to buy it. No one has ever regretted buying a hard drive with too high a storage capacity, but if you buy a hard drive that is too small you will quickly regret it. If you fill up the computer hard drive that came with your computer you will have to either replace it with a larger capacity drive, buy a second internal hard drive or purchase an external hard drive that connects to the computer with a USB cable. It is better to shop for as large a hard drive as you can find, and this will be the most cost effective solution in the long run.

The Revealing Truth About Hewlett Packard Remanufactured Discounted Printer Inkjet Cartridges

Writen by Joseph Mercado

Don’t hesistate to read this article on HP third party inkjet cartridges. You just never know when information such as this can help you save money.

Hewlett Packard remanufactured inkjet cartridges have both played a positive and negative role within the consumable market.

I can certainly testify that the question on using hp remanufactured cartridges would be both the best dream and the worst migraine headache for your printer.

After venture to venture using remanufactured hp ink cartridges and going through trial and error the answer is no for some and yes for others. Think of my answer as being neutral.

First I’m going to give you 5 reasons why end users buy remanufcatured hp printer cartridges.

1. Saving money.
2. Reduces costs.
3. Not concerned about print quality.
4. Special discounted cartridge offers.
5. Getting paid for their empty hp cartridges.

Listen, if you plan on printing graphics, family photos or high quality school projects, then you’ll have no choice but to buy a genuine hp cartridge.

The defect rate on an hp remanufactured cartridge is much greater. The best way to avoid this defective loophole is to find a really good supplier of both genuine and remanufactured hp ink cartridges.

They can supply you with either one and you can test the qualities and seek for yourself. Make sure they are reliable.

I’ve spent a bank load of money on testing various remanufactured hp inkjet cartridges and found some suppliers aren’t using the right machinery. For instance, I bought 10 hp remanufcatured inkjets from ths one place and only 2 out 10 cartridges would actually print properly.

There’s been other times where I would buy 5 and find 4 of them would work. You better off learning from me and only buy one at a time so you don’t play the exchange game. Remember, it’s not always what you know but who you know in the ink business.

Laser Printer Supplies

Writen by Seth Miller

Through the years, various types of computer printers have been developed. Among the most common types currently available in the market, the laser printer stands out as being the most utilized. Lasers are employed in this kind of technology since the coherent emission of light produced leads to a high level of precision. The significant feature of a laser printer, which makes it popular to use, is its capability to produce printouts that are of high quality. It can also print graphics in addition to text printing. When it was initially introduced, the laser printer was too expensive and a limited number of end users could afford it. However, given the trend in technological innovations, the price of laser printers has declined substantially through the years.

Aside from its present competitive cost, the advantages of using laser printer over the other popular type of printer, which is inkjet, are its faster printing speed, the more distinct text and consequently, the lower cost incurred for every page printed.

Laser printer supplies can be easily procured from any wholesale or retail stores that sell computers and computer accessories. The wide selection of their products’ supplies covers the major computer brands or labels. Thus, if you specifically need a certain brand for your toner cartridge, you can be sure that most of them carry that brand. As the competition in laser printer supplies increases, there are even stores that specializes in selling laser printer toner cartridges only. As a come-on, some of these suppliers have a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their products over a certain period of time.

As more people prefer to use laser printers, the suppliers for this type of printers are bound to increase over time as a result of the anticipated rise in demand.

C++ Function Templates

Writen by Muthukumar

C++ Function templates are those functions which can handle different data types without separate code for each of them. For a similar operation on several kinds of data types, a programmer need not write different versions by overloading a function. It is enough if he writes a C++ template based function. This will take care of all the data types.

There are two types of templates in C++, viz., function templates and class templates. This article deals with only the function templates.

There are lot of occasions, where we might need to write the same functions for different data types. A favorite example can be addition of two variables. The variable can be integer, float or double. The requirement will be to return the corresponding return type based on the input type. If we start writing one function for each of the data type, then we will end up with 4 to 5 different functions, which can be a night mare for maintenance.

C++ templates come to our rescue in such situations. When we use C++ function templates, only one function signature needs to be created. The C++ compiler will automatically generate the required functions for handling the individual data types. This is how a programmer’s life is made a lot easier.

C++ Template functions – Details:

Let us assume a small example for Add function. If the requirement is to use this Add function for both integer and float, then two functions are to be created for each of the data type (overloading).

int Add(int a,int b) { return a+b;} // function Without C++ template

float Add(float a, float b) { return a+b;} // function Without C++ template

If there are some more data types to be handled, more functions should be added.

But if we use a c++ function template, the whole process is reduced to a single c++ function template. The following will be the code fragment for Add function.

template

T Add(T a, T b) //C++ function template sample

{

return a+b;

}

This c++ function template definition will be enough. Now when the integer version of the function, the compiler generates an Add function compatible for integer data type and if float is called it generates float type and so on.

Here T is the typename. This is dynamically determined by the compiler according to the parameter passed. The keyword class means, the parameter can be of any type. It can even be a class.

C++ Template functions – Applicability:

C++ function templates can be used wherever the same functionality has to be performed with a number of data types. Though very useful, lots of care should be taken to test the C++ template functions during development. A well written c++ template will go a long way in saving time for programmers.

Software Translation & Localization

Writen by Shy Avni

What is Software Localization?

The Localization Industry Standards Association (LISA) defines localization as “the process of modifying products or services to account for differences in distinct markets”. Software localization is thus much more than translating user interfaces from one language to another. It is about adapting all cultural content and technical issues to a specific audience in a given location.

localization means ensuring that your software “speaks” the language of your customers. In a world of globalization, localization can make the difference between success and failure in your target markets. However, as the business environment becomes increasingly competitive, the challenge of adapting software, documentation, online help, Web pages and manuals to conform to the cultural, linguistic and regulatory needs of each customer becomes formidable. Localization has effectively become the cost of doing business in the global market.

Internationalization is the process of translating software UI (user interfaces) from one language to another and altering it to suit foreign clients and their culture norms. this in not just about translating languages, but adapting from one culture to another.

Globalization makes your software ready for the global market. Localization includes the program itself and any online or printed documentation. As the competition among the many software developers increases, software companies are increasingly challenged to localize its software, documents, web pages, and manuals to each customer’s different cultural and language needs. In addition, there are increasing regulatory, cultural and compliance pressures that companies need to deal with. a well executed globalization process can aid in opening new markets and retaining current clients.

Localization is not limited to translating English into other languages (as most software continues to be developed in the U.S.) but also includes every language from French, Spanish, Hebrew, Chinese, Arabic, etc.

benefits both developers and customers alike In five years, the number of non-English speaking Internet users has gone from less than 10% to nearly 64% of all users. Similarly, user trends are similar. More and more non-English speaking users are using localized software. (Nielsen/Net ratings Internet measurement service)

Users of computer software expect their software to be written in their own language. Although localization services come at a cost to software developers, it also yields concrete benefits: Users who understand a product fully are more skilled in managing it, more efficient in using it and less likely to make costly mistakes. These are all issues that affect the bottom line. The more skilled and efficient the users, the lower the burden on customer support and services.

Localization allows users to interact with applications in their own language and in a setting that is intuitive to them.

For Example:

Messages are in their own language

Input fields formatted as is customary in the specific country (names, addresses, dates, and other data)

Keyboard character standards when input is required

Error messages in the local language ensure quick resolution

Competition in the software industry is fierce with many quality products vying for the same market. Differentiation today is not about bells and whistles, but about who best meets the needs of the customer. Localizing is the key to strategic, competitive advantage.

RAID Disk Recovery

Writen by Brad Triggs

RAID is short for Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks, a category of disk drives that employ two or more drives in combination for fault tolerance and performance. RAID disk drives are used frequently on servers and increasingly being employed on personal computers. Array is the operative word, which also dictates what the cure is going to be, when a RAID disk recovery situation arises.

RAID disk repair, as you may expect is quite a complicated process. But the good thing going for it is the chances for retrieving lost data is higher than with most other types of disks because the typical RAID architecture strategically distributes data randomly across the array. What this sort of architecture demands of recovery professionals is to specialize in the disk’s many different levels.

In a nutshell, these are all the levels that the RAID disk recovery team is up against. RAID 0, 1, 0+1; RAID 3, 4; RAID 5; RAID 10; Hardware RAID including: AMI, Compaq, Dell, Adaptec, IBM, etc.; and, Software RAID including Mac OS; Windows Servers including 2K, XP, NT; Linux, Solaris, Novell, etc.

Just some RAID systems that most RAID disk recovery specialists should all be familiar with are: Quantum Snap Server; Maxtor MaxAttach; Adaptec AAA131; Compaq; Dell Perc Systems; IBM; AMI; Mylex; and yes, many others!

The two most common implementations of the RAID architecture are Levels 4 and 5. Level 4 provides block stripping with a parity check. When a data disk fails, the parity data is used to create a replacement disk. Level 5 provides data stripping at the byte level and also stripe error correction information, which results in excellent performance and good fault tolerance. These two types are certainly the best friends of the RAID disk recovery expert as these are the easiest to restore when the situation arises.

Brad Triggs provides more information on Data Recovery at his website:
